Launching CQA Next - Teacher Residency Program

For our scholars, for our families, for our community, for the field.

As we worked to complete the expansion of CQA I and open CQA II, we recognized that we were doing so in a time of a national teacher shortage. Understanding that our teachers are critical to our scholars’ academic success, we began to plan out our own strategic teacher training initiative.

For several years, CQA has managed a small, internal teacher apprenticeship pipeline. Through hands-on training, coaching, professional development, and extensive time in the classroom, our associate teachers gained the experience they needed to move into a lead teacher role. This helped support our recruitment efforts as we expanded our schools. But the teacher shortage crisis and the difficulty finding experienced teachers has increased.

Last fall we began the process of building out a formal Teacher Residency Program with our own graduate level coursework designed in cohesion with the practical experiences in the classroom. We are excited to announce that we have officially partnered with Touro University to launch our own Masters Residency Program called CQA Next. Residents will take their coursework at our facilities, learn from CQA clinical coaches, and train with CQA master teachers to earn dual certification in Childhood Education and Teaching Students with Disabilities and a Master of Science degree. We are now accepting applications from prospective candidates who will begin their residency at CQA this summer.

CQA Next will require an extensive and ongoing investment of time and resources, but we see it as a critical step forward in supporting the long-term sustainability of our strong and proven model. We are prepared to make this investment for our scholars, our families, our community, and the field.
