NYC Parents Speak Out About How Charter Schools Changed Their Kids' Lives
New York City families spoke to the New York Post about the positive impact charter schools have made on their children’s education and lives. Thank you to CQA parent, Jennifer Ochoa and her son, CQA middle school scholar Oliver, for proudly representing our school community!
Speaking to the New York Post, Jennifer said:
“CQA, like most charter schools, has smaller student-to-teacher ratios. This allows for the educators and additional staff to address the needs of all students, and have one-to-one relationships with them and parents and guardians.”
“Charter schools have given opportunities to students who more than likely would’ve fallen through the cracks. During the height of the pandemic, Oliver received virtual instruction from CQA and I am thankful. Many public school students fell far behind, but Oliver and his mates thrived.”

“My son, he actually made the decision to come. He chose the school – to come to Central Queens Academy. It was a good choice. And with the support of his family, and now his extended family he has at Central Queens Academy, he’s been able to become more self-advocating for himself. From a student who had an IEP and speech therapy, to a person who is able to advocate for himself and for others, this has been a great blossoming. Just to see him blossom and a great experience here. And we know that he is going to have a great future, and we thank the charter schools for that.” - Jennifer Ochoa, CQA parent
